Of interest:
What word(s) do you say to describe the obvious trichomes or hairs on these leaves ?

Indeed for the necessarily multiple methods of resolution of the taxonomy of the broadest sense of Stylidium graminifolium – i agree,
including with my own views and as i am used to for decades,
Juliet Wege's views i have quoted and
now your expressed above views !

Unfortunately I didn't have a permit at this stage, so it is possible that that population remains uncollected. I suspect the traditional plodding botanical descriptive approaches alone may not provide the answers ecologists and naturalists are after for a quick reliable identification in this group of Stylidium. At the moment it seems that much uncertainty exists in understanding characters or groups of characters truly useful for recognizing and separating species. The application of molecular tools may first be necessary to recognize valid species or subspecies entities. Multivariate statistical techniques could then be tried to identify which combination of physical characters can be best to use to distinguish and recognize the molecular defined entities. It has been more than 30 yrs since I've used such statistics and I've never had any experience with modern molecular biology, so all this is well beyond me now.
