Thanks for looking into it so thoroughly Wendy. Don seems to think it is not clear cut which Epiphyas species it is. I can't really contribute much here other than to say that I believe that I have seen many moths that looked just like this one.

Yes, i think this is the darker male, as shown on LBH (Leidoptera Butterfly House).
