Image captures first fledgling flight of a Gang-gang chick an event rarely witnessed

User's notes

Fluke that I was there, fluke that I managed this shot! Was nearly not going to go up - too hot, but after the storm had cooled things down, decided to wander up the hill to help with the hollow watching with Cam and Tom. I saw dad at Tom 2, but no sign of young female (only one left in nest). However, as dad was still around, I thought she must be be there. I was observing another hollow when I heard a bit of carry-on, and rushed back to T2. The young female was looking around, her head and torso exposed only to the extent shown in the second photo. My finger was pressing on the shutter button to take another photo of her in the nest, when suddenly, she was no longer nesting, but flying! So - apologies for the poor photo, but pretty chuffed to have finally captured a fledging! We then followed her flight path, and found the family in a tree about 100m away (??), where we then saw a young male bird wobbly grasping onto the top tips of the trees, mostly hidden by copious leaves. We assume this tree was also hiding the newly fledged female, but it was becoming too dark to make meaningful observations.
