Many extensive patches through various areas of the paddocks section of JWNR. Documented whilst on bird surveys. Apparently already alerted to the rangers but not controlled yet, but needs control urgently. There is another very extensive infestation on the Peninsula directly opposite Kingston Foreshore

There are multiple areas where the plant is growing. I can provide the areas I observed it to someone who is interested in control. I presume it has had a while to establish here as this section is seldom visited

Check with Michael Mulvaney for who to contact for outbreaks other than your photo. I think Sightings on CNM go direct to Biosecurity ( or equivalent).

Hi All. This is a well know area that ACT Biosecurity have set aside to conduct a herbicide trial in. A contractor has recently finished treating all of the other known infestations in the Jerrabomberra wetlands. The NCA also are currently treating the alligator weed in lake Burley Griffin. Given the fact that alligator weed is established in nearly all of the urban waterways in the ACT we are now focusing on key areas to manage rather than attempting eradication across the board.

Thanks Harley, its good to get updated, and get the bigger picture.
Sorry to hear that eradication is no longer the goal. I did hope it would be possible to keep selected sub-catchments free.

Luckily Namadgi and Tidbinbilla are still free of alligator weed, though Tid did have a small amount found that we were able to locally eradicate. All of the creeks and lakes in town are still being surveyed and treated but the scale and density of this species have unfortunately made eradication very unlikely.

Is there any way that volunteers familiar with Alligator weed can help with the survey ( has to be a big job )

Posting observations to citizen science are always helpful, as well as using Field maps to map locations. We get alerts from the Atlas of Living Australia on every citizen science observation for key weeds, alligator weed being one. All NatureMapr observations are also imported into our mapping system each night.
