I think this is the giant Yellow Box you're after @Steve818. Will have to go back sometime with a measuring tape and in better light. Couldn't see any hollows.

Yes a giant yellow box. Healthy too @HelenCross with no sign of patchy branch death, so it coped well with the 2018-19 drought. It shows the importance of these urban lowland sites for large Eucalypts. I noticed you have added it to the Big Eucalypts collection project. I have added it to the Eucalypt Health Surveillance collection too. It will be good to monitor long term. Hopefully City Services and ACT Roads will refer to these NatureMapr collections for monitoring and conserving significant Eucalypt trees.

Is this the tree in the middle of Drakeford Drive that I have been admiring for many years? It looks like it, but the location is slightly out. The form of this tree is magnificent, with a large spreading canopy. It was pruned slightly a few years ago and lost a little bit of symmetry. But what a magnificent Yellow Box, my favourite in suburban Canberra. There is a Blakely's Red Gum growing in suburban Kambah that is the healthiest and has the largest trunk I've seen, I should go get some photos. Incredibly, it's right in the front yard of a house.

Thanks @MatthewFrawley yes the Big Eucalypts collection project is there for the largest individuals of different Eucalypt tree species. So a huge healthy Blakely's red gum would be ideal. @HelenCross should be able to fix the location. It is on the Drakeford Dr median strip.

I'll try and get some photos the next time I'm in Canberra. I would have to speak to the resident to get a trunk measurement as I'd need to be in their front yard.

My favourite is this Eucalyptus melliodora at the entrance to Lanyon Homestead..... Eucalyptus melliodora (Yellow Box)

@HelenCross and @michaelb I was able to fix location. The yellow box is so large you can see it easily on Google Maps.

I know that Yellow Box as well @michaelb it is very tall. I know most of the remnant Yellow Box and Blakely's Red Gums in the suburban footprint of the Tuggeranong Valley.

It would be good to get all the largest ones on NatureMapr for long term monitoring and to cross check with the significant tree register that City Services administers.

What about the EPSDD Tree Health Monitoring? There was a survey several years ago and a repeat (?) in 2020-21

Not sure of its coverage @Mike
TCCS manages these urban trees, as they are the land manager, so it's important that significant Eucalypts on their land are on their register.

Thanks Steve, my father had just given me his old 50m tape measure and I'm going to go out and measure the other eucs I've recorded, but you've saved me doing this one!
