This large infestation and others nearby on creek banks were treated by contractors on 8 April. The creek must have been running high and swift on that date (after heavy rain on Sat 6th) and hopefully chemical was not sprayed onto floating stems. Some leaves have responded to spray but not enough so request these plants receive a second treatment.
Image lacks clear diagnostic features for the species but confirmed as Alternanthera philoxeroides due to being a repeat observation. As for treatment: Alternanthera philoxeroides is renowned for being difficult to eradicate, and reduction by repeated treatments is common practice.
JaneR - your note on repeated treatments must be 'normal' for an aquatic weed. All I hoped to do with this re-sighting (and apols for the indistinct photo from opposite side of the creek that was flowing strongly again) was suggest that chemical treatment here was probably even less effective than 'normal' given the high water flow in April and that HarleyB and Biosecurity could well flag these locations for a revisit sooner than later.
