One of the main characteristics of species in the subgenus Leioproctus (Euryglossidia) is that they have two, not three, submarginal cells in the forewing. Without a clear view of the wing veins it would be hard to place a species in that group.

No. Occasionally they show up clearly (see Ferns and Clubmosses), but it is usually a matter of luck. Ring flash illumination might help, but identification of bee species from photographs will always have limitations.
