Huge numbers of hornwort sporophytes developing in the area. A different species can be seen on the right in the second photo

Comment by Chris Cargill: Anthoceros cf agrestis – it could also be Anthoceros punctatus. According to Jean Paton, Anthoceros punctatus is “strongly aromatic”! So they should try crushing a piece of it and smelling it!
