Some grasshoppers especially nymphs are difficult to ID without dorsal and lateral shots. This one appears to have very stout femora and a white dorsal carena and indented pronotum sides. Not many species overwinter as nymphs in the ST. It could be Perunga but the dorsal stripe would not fit.
Your next pictures of the same species were fine for identification! Later in spring there should be adults of the same species about that will hopefully vindicate my ID or not, as the case may be!
