Significant sighting

Mulligans flat is a local stronghold of this nationally threatened grasshopper - most observations are in spring and autumn - an under the log record is unusual

User's notes

15mm grasshopper, found under a log in a drainage channel. Kangaroo grass is present nearby although at least 15m away from this site. Plants include Blakely's red gums, silver wattle, and kneed speargrass. Interesting that it seems to be a significant distance from kangaroo grass.....

We have also had a Cryptobothrus nymph under bark.

Hi Roger, does Keyacris scurra have a preference for any species of grasses?

I have invariably recorded Ks in Themeda but Kearney has recorded it from Chrysocephalum apiculatum and Acaena that are supposed to be its manin food plant (Blackith & Blackith). My sighting at the Pomaderris reserve was an exception s no Themeda was present.

Thanks Roger. Kim Pullen recorded Keyacris at Tuggeranong Hill some time ago. I was exploring the hill a few days ago but found nothing. I will know better where to look next time.
