Probably a species of Tulostoma - probably less likely a Disciseda. The former has a stem, alas usually buried in the soil, though sometimes you see loose specimens with at part of the stem still attached - or a basal hole into which the stem fitted. Check the Tulostoma sightings to make things clearer. Did you notice either stem or hole?

I didn't notice stem or basal hole, Didn't think to even check for anything like that, but now I'm aware I will check in future.

When you do, use a knife point or a solid twig to carefully lever the fungus out of the soil. In some the head can break off easily - and then be blown around like a tumbleweed. For now, I'll go with Tulostoma.
