User's notes

Compact colony roosting high in lakeside Casuarina cunninghamiana plantings. Roost is about 100m off the well-used walking track and would be undetected by most passers-by. Thanks to Robin Hide for drawing attention to it.. Perhaps this could now be regarded as a traditional summer roost site for this species, having been reported 3 times on CNM and once on ALA (Dec 2015). Short video at https://vimeo.com/492942610 shows sections of the colony, including copulation at 1min:30sec

Interesting. Little Reds are highly nomadic, they go where the food is, I'm not sure it would be a 'traditional' summer roost in the annual sense, but it certainly looks like whenever the conditions are right locally this is the 'go to' spot! . Would be great to see some CNM records of them feeding to know where/what they're feeding on. They're generally more reliant on native tree flowers and nectar than the grey headed flying foxes who also are fond of Canberra's fruit trees.
Up until the early 2000s Little Reds were the only flying fox species to regularly visit the Canberra region.
