This is the first time we have heard these calls. They appear to be evenly spaced over a wide area, all day yesterday and into the night, then again from early this morning. At least a dozen.
This species seems to have been hammered during the drought and possibly by the fires. But now, the lag between high grass growth following a wet spring and the grazing pressure which was reduced by the drought means that this species would probably have a bumper breeding season.
Not sure how to post an audio and an image on the same sighting, as I can see the image on the profile page but not on the sighting. While walking, throughout the Sanctuary, the Quail will explode out from the grassy layer nearby. So well camouflaged, a bird departed and these eggs were literally between my feet, so a good opportunity for a quick photo.
