Great to see skinks being sighted in HGW despite the woodland being repeatedly burned for various reasons over many years since 1960. HGW was started in 2003 and in 2013, the Hughes Garran Woodland Management was prepared to limit burning (just google it). Well worth a read!
Yes that is good to know. Small ground layer reptiles generally don't survive very well in areas subjected to regular burning. The leaf litter they forage in, and find shelter in, has been removed, and so often the piles of bark, branches, and hollow logs that they depend upon also disappear. The individual you photographed is a male with his bold white stripes and red throat.
