Hi Jbromilow50, M. nigriceps is similar, but the overall colour and shape of the mandibles makes it M. simillima, another relatively common species. Cheers, Jon

Is it true to say that in C. nigriceps the mandibles are more yellow?

Hi John, yes, the mandibles are typically yellowish. So you normally see an ant with black (or at least very dark) head and gaster (tail), a reddish body and yellowish mandibles. They do seems to be reasonably consistent in this colouration. Cheers, Jon
