Heino other than Ken's earlier reporting spilt gill fungus has been recorded in the Atlas of Living Australia records from within our region. Is this believable?

has not?

No! Just now when I went into ALA I got 29 sightings of Schizophyllum commune as Kingdom: Fungi and 1,533 as Kingdom: Plantae. Weird. In the 29 (which report preserved specimens) there are no ACT or nearby records, but there are records from our region in the 1,533 (which include specimens and visual sightings). When I want to check for herbarium holdings I go to AVH (http://avh.chah.org.au/) which usually gives me what I want straight away but for this species it gives just 32 herbarium records for Australia (and these don't overlap with the 29 from ALA). Sorry to repeat myself - but weird again! But it's even weirder because in the Canberra herbarium alone there are more than 32 databased Australian specimens (including 4 from the ACT). A search in AVH on just Schizophyllum (and some delving) reveals 276 databased Australian specimens named as Schizophyllum commune but, when it comes to presenting information for searchers most have had the species bit stripped off. Once before, on Canberra Nature Map, I reported this problem with searching on ALA (and noted that I'd been told it would be fixed in the coming months), but I don't think I'd had such a problem with AVH. While ALA does provide useful information about fungi, for now it pays to be wary (and I've also come across this problem with lichens on ALA).

Thanks Heino - I'll remain wary
