This is very likely a species of Phylloporus. There are several species of the genus in Australia, usually with a fairly solid or chunky look and a brownish to reddish brown cap that can be rather drab. However the gills are a fairly bright yellow. Next time you see one of these, run your fingernail across the gills to see if you get a blue-green colour reaction when the gills are damaged and the contents exposed to the air. There's an example of that here: http://www.cpbr.gov.au/fungi/images-captions/phylloporus-sp-0062.html.
