Bluetts Block (we need your help)

Hi NatureMappers,

You may be aware that there is currently an application for an environmental impact assessment exemption for further urban development in the Bluetts Block area near Denman Prospect. It is an absolutely pristine grassland area with hundreds of plant and animal species.

We have created a rough polygon of the "deferred area" in the development application so that we can get a good picture of how many species may be impacted if development was to go ahead.

https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/map?LocationId=11926

Could you please head out to the Bluetts Block area and report as many important sightings as you can in this area - the more records we have will give us the greatest change of protecting this important untouched grassland area.

Please note that your records may be used in a submission to ACT Government to try to block the exemption and protect the area. If you do not want your records to be used for this purpose, please let me or any of the CNM administrators a message.

Thanks for all your help.

Aaron.

Great work Aaron. If anyone would like to assist me in a nocturnal survey of Bluetts Block, please get in contact with me via a direct message through Canberra Nature Map.

BTW, I have listed your PTWL sighting in the deferred area as significant, because it is.

Please also be aware that last week the Conservation Council has prepared a Petition "Save Bluetts Block". Please go to the Conservation Council website or to Bluetts Block Facebook and sign a copy. A minimum of 500 signatures are needed .

I took part in Platypus Watch near Butters Bridge this week. There was the clamour
of nearby building; large areas of land cleared for housing. Such a sad sight.

The Orchid Society of Canberra Conservation Group has applied for and received an ACT NRM Environment Department Grant to undertake an orchid baseline survey during the next year and we will conduct regular orchid surveys of this area starting this spring all assistance welcome. We will be attempting to identify and record the full diversity and density of orchids at Bluetts Block/Piney Ridge and adjoining areas.
